Copyright rules for lecturers at SDU: Pictures

SDU has an agreement with Copy-Dan Billedkunst, which means that you can use pictures from the Internet and from books in your lectures, teaching, and papers.

According to this agreement, you are allowed to:

• Download illustrations from Internet pages with open access
• Scan illustrations from books, postcards, magazines, etc.
• Use the illustrations in PowerPoint presentations and in papers
• Create illustrated lessons for use on Smartboards
• Save your illustrated presentations and lessons on Smartboards and share and/or re-use them with other lecturers at your institution
• Save your own illustrated lessons, PowerPoint presentations and papers to your institution’s intranet or store them on a USB media
• Add pictures to student reports and papers
• Exchange illustrated digital lessons, papers and reports via e-mail between lecturers and students at your institution
• Create a picture archive on the institution’s intranet

According to the agreement, you are NOT allowed to:

• Use the illustrations outside the institution or share them with lecturers and students outside the institution
• Use the illustrations for other purposes than lecturing and teaching
• Upload the illustrations to websites pages with open access, including the institution’s own homepage
• Upload the illustrations to an intranet without password protection
• Manipulate or change the illustrations 

Always remember to cite your sources.

Please note that a number of artists and photographers do not permit use of their work. You can find a list of their names here.

Pictures/Photos for external use:
If you need illustrations for documents which are to be shared outside your institution, you need to get permission from the copyright holders. Alternatively you can try to find pictures that have a Creative Commons (CC) license or similar.

As an employee or student at SDU you have access to the image archive Colourbox, which provides free access to pictures, videos and illustrations: http://www.colourbox.dk/
NB: always write Colourbox in the byline space beneath the pictures

Students:
Please go to Blackboard for further information. Click the Library tab.

Staff members:
The materials can be used freely, for anything from marketing/commercials to teaching and papers or articles.
The pictures can be uploaded to websites or printed.
