SciTech: Reference management and citation

LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system; it includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation. LaTeX is the de facto standard for the communication and publication of scientific documents in many fields of science. LaTeX is available as free software.

The easiest way to get started with LaTeX is to use the free browser-based LaTeX service Overleaf since this requires no installation. Because the documents are stored in the cloud this allows for real time collaborations with colleagues and fellow students from all over the world. Furthermore Overleaf offers spellchecking and AI assistance for language improvements.

A very good quick introduction to or explanation of features in LaTeX in 30 minutes but also webinars and tutorials are freely available. Templates for publications, thesis, books, assignments, CVs and much more can be found among the many templates.

Since the free version of Overleaf limits the number of collaborators to one, limited compile time and no document history this can limit the size of the project. For very large projects or projects with many collaborators a public server using the Overleaf software can be set up on UCloud, without these limitations. Bachelor, master and PhD works will usually not be affected by the limitations of the free version of Overleaf.
