EBSCO english (Cinahl, ASP, Business Source Complete...): Free Text Search

What is free text searching?

Free text searches typically search in titles, abstracts and keywords, but not in full text.

Tip

Combine searces, when searching on AND or OR

Proximity Operators are used if you want to specify how distant your keywords can be, for example in an abstract.

How to make a free text search

You can use the advanced search techniques (commands) that are available in conjunction with the free text search.

This should be done together with a keyword search (the controlled keywords).

In all EBSCO databases, you will start in Advanced search.

Here you can enter one or more keywords and you can fill in a specific field (e.g. title or abstract) or all fields under Select a Field.

When one or more keywords are filled in, click Search.

The result is displayed in Search History:

TIP! remember to click on Clear between each search (otherwise your previous search will be repeated!).
