Syddansk Universitetsbibliotek - LibGuides
Ebsco has a new user interface as of 7.1.2025. There may be features that currently do not work properly.
These links might be useful to get familiar with the new EBSCO:
This Libguide is a guide on how to search the EBSCO databases. Below is a list of the databases available to SDU employees and students.
They are topic-specific, which means different focus for different target groups.
Search one database at a time when you are searching systematically.
Be aware if you are in a specific database or All databases.
Overview on functions
Guidance on searching within fields at SDU that use EBSCO databases:
SDU employees and SDU students can access all EBSCO databases.
In the databases link to full text articles are available.
OUH employees has access to the EBSCO databases Cinahl, Global Health and AMED
Switch languages.
If you would like to switch to another language, you must be logged in from MyEbsco.
Go to 'My preferences' and select the language you want, such as Danish or English.
The Ebsco platform might automatically switch to the language you have selected as default in your browser.
We recommend that you start with a keyword search in an index (controlled keywords).
The keywords can be found in the Advanced search:
”Cinahl Subject Heading”,"Subject Terms" or "Thesaurus".
This gives you an overview of the controlled keywords and can gives you suggestions for new relevant keywords.
Search for a subject and click on the magnifying glass.
Select one or more controlled keywords by checking the box and click Add to search
Click on the keyword if you want to see the subterms and check the box to add them as well.
If you want ALL the narrower terms included, click Explode
When you are done adding keywords, click on Search
The search result shows which controlled keywords have been searched in the Thesaurus. In the example the controlled terms are called DE. In other EBSCO databases they may have different names for the keywords/terms, e.g. Cinahl MH
In some databases e.g. Cinahl you can select Major Concept (MM) for a subject term, in that way you will only find records for which the subject is a major point of the article.
Searches might be limited with specific qualifiers (Subheadings) to improve the precision of the search, but these can also be left out.
If you select both Explode and Major Concept, you retrieve all references indexed to your subject term (and its narrower terms) AND all articles for which the subject heading is a major point of the article.
