Truncation and Masking

Truncation and Masking (wildcard) usefull when free text searching.

Truncation and masking with the wild cards * ? and #


* (asterix is used as a wildcard when truncating which means you search for words with one, more or no extra letters in a keyword (e.g. for singular and plural).
For example, educat* will capture words and concepts containing educat, i.e. education, educations, educating, educated, etc.


? and # is used as wildcard to replace one or no letters in a keyword, either inside the word or at the end of the word.
# replaces at least one letter, e.g. p#ediatric will catch both pediatric and paediatric
? replaces only one letter
